Application of MBR to treat textile wastewater is an emerging technology and needs research on (i) interactions between membrane materials and dyes (ii) optimizing the MBR in terms of SRT, HRT and mode of operation in order to grow microbial communities that will degrade persistent dye molecules along with other pollutants (iii) the effect of EPS on fouling (iv) achieving higher flux. The review indicates that the utilisation of MF/UF/NF/MD along with MBR will provide an efficient recovery of dyes and water. Addition of RO will produce high quality water and recover salts; FO will eliminate the discharge of concentrate.
