Lexia Reading software
The founder of the Lexia Reading Systems is the father of a
child with dyslexia who had the benefit of a phonics intervention
when learning to read (http://www.lexialearning.
com/about/lexiastory.html). Bob Lemire had the personal
means to pay for one-on-one tutoring for his son and attendance
at a private school for children with dyslexia. Having
seen the benefits for his child, he wanted every child with
dyslexia to be able to access a phonics programme tailored
to their needs. To realise his goal, he had to ensure that cost
would not be a barrier for anyone wanting to avail of the intervention. Computer technology proved to be a means
for achieving this goal. Lexia Learning Systems was
founded in 1984 with this vision, and the scope and
sequence of the programme has been in development for
over 25 years.
