For each grinding trial, a charge of 500 g of corn or
350 g of corncobs was ground for 5 min. Because of the
relatively low bulk density of corncobs compared to corn
kernels and the limitations of the hammermill hopper
volume, less cobs by weight (350 g) was in a charge
compared to a charge of corn kernels (500 g). Three
grinding replications were conducted for both corn and
corncobs at each moisture level.
