On the contrary a low extraction yield could be sufficient enough to provide a good result taking into account the recovery yields, as long as it is accurate and precise. By the way, it does not apply to the extraction of powdered milk with n-hexane only which provides an insufficient and non representative quantity of fat, as evidenced by the very high and variable peroxide values (exp. 1–5, mean value 7.0 meq O /kg, RSD 25%) obtained. The overestimation could be reasonably justified
if we consider that n-hexane selectively extracts the superficial fat which is the most exposed to oxygen effects.
