FedEx strives to be an environmental leader in the transportation industry. We participate in the development of sound environmental policy and the promotion of effective environmental management by our suppliers and contractors.
We believe that opportunities to use new technologies to achieve greater environmental benefits are just beginning to be realized. FedEx is proud to be one of the first companies to make investments in large-scale solar power, renewable energy purchases, hybrid-electric delivery trucks and other emerging environmental efforts.
Through collaborations with government and nonprofits, greener technologies like these are gaining in popularity, and FedEx continues to use its leadership position to help establish them as the standard in the industry. FedEx was the only transportation company to publicly call for fuel efficiency standards for commercial medium and heavy-duty truck classes. These standards would help speed development of new, cleaner vehicle truck technologies, as they did for passenger cars. FedEx Chairman, President and CEO Fred Smith has also made a public call for energy efficiency and diversification through his involvement with Securing America’s Future Energy.
FedEx recognizes that the long-term health of our business is directly connected to the health of the planet and local communities. We remain focused on sourcing environmental solutions that will lessen our footprint, while serving as an example to our peers.
We are proud to have been recognized by leading government agencies, nonprofit organizations, academic institutions and more for our contributions to sustainable business development.
