The first project aim was to create a community partnership between the private health sector, public health, public school, and two schools of nursing to explore an innovative childhood obesity prevention strategy delivered in the school setting. This aim was accomplished successfully in year one of the project. Teachers were engaged throughout the year including the control teachers, who were less enthusiastic at the beginning of the year. Similar to findings
reported by Rogers and Motyka [13], following this first year, teachers, school principals, and nursing faculty rated the program favorably and were interested in sustaining the project. Focus group participants provided much feedback about the success of the project highlighting the community partnership and delivery format with nursing students as strengths. They also provided suggestions about improvement for the next year and these suggestions are
discussed in the section on implications for research and practice.
