In the present study, the nasolabial fold was selected as an anatomic site, as each side of the face could be treated by using a different method for easy comparison. The local mass effect of the HA filler lasted between 6 and 12 months, with the duration primarily determined by the degree of movement of the injected site4. As the nasola- bial fold frequently moves during facial expressions, the injected filler often spreads and breaks down faster than in other less mobile areas. Therefore, combination therapies are often used to maintain a longer effect. The beveling and fern techniques have since been developed to prevent filler migration to the upper part of the nasolabial fold.
