Conners et al. (2007) recognise that leaders have drive, energy and vision, self-discipline and flexibility, with the ability to assemble a team and motivate others. These authors assert that if the best performers are not identified as leaders, others fail to learn from them and quality of care can be found lacking (Conners et al., 2007). As out-lined above, identification of leadership qualities can be a somewhat complex and often subjective process and is something often lumped-in with allocation of management roles in many workplaces.
