the study provided evidence that these techniques may be
important for curbing antenatal anxiety and physical pain.
In addition to these holistic approaches to addressing
anxiety, it is important to assess for other psychological
conditions that may be present when antenatal anxiety is
observed. As reported previously, comorbid anxiety and depression
is a common phenomenon. In addition, Beddoe et
al. (2009) reported that stress during pregnancy is also correlated
with smoking, alcohol use, extended sick leave, and
a higher number of visits to care providers. Thus, it is critical
for any pre-existing medical conditions or disorders acquired
during pregnancy to be considered when determining which
to treat first, or which medications to give concurrently.
Some of these may include gestational diabetes, high blood
pressure, sleep disorders, and fatigue.
