The alarm rings and emergency doctor Mathias Uhl, paramedic Andreas Wurtil and Helicopter pilot Martin Nussdorfer jump into the Helicopter. Perharps it's a skier with a broken leg. a climber in fog or an avalanche.
But it isn't. This time, the alarm onlya test- but accident can happen at any time and in dangerous places. Bethany Bell met the mountain rescuers and asked them about the job. Nussdorfer says that today the weather is good but 'usually we fly in much worse weather condition'. These can be very dangerous. Another problem, Wurtil says, is that often the people they rescue are frightened.
The mountain rescuers sometime get angry with the people they rescue. Uhl says, 'These people always risk their lives but they also risk our lives for nothing'.
Uhl, Nussdorfer and Wurtl have some great moments abd occasionally they get a surprise. Uhl says, 'l remember one time - there were two people on a ski tour in an avalanche. Every bone was broken. Half a year later, this woman comes to us, brings us some wine. says thank you.' The people they rescue, Uhl explains, hardly ever say thank you!
