Bacteria
Bacteria are smaller and simpler than fungi and can never be seen without a microscope. When they destroy roots or block a plant's water-conducting tubes, they destroy the plant wilts and dies.
Bacteria can survive for a long time by surrounding themselves with a protective coating which prevents them from drying out.
They grow in wet conditions.
Some species are transmitted from plant to plant by insects.
Others isadhere tois seeds.
Planung material, such as sugar cane stems or root sections of banana are at risk because these must stay moist till planted.
Antibiotics called bactericides have been used to manage some diseases caused by bacteria.
