Callus cultures of Artocarpus lakoocha were successfully established
in this study with spontaneous production of the genusspecific
secondary metabolites. Thirteen polyphenolics, including
eight flavonoids, four stilbenoids and a coumarin, were isolated
and identified.Among these isolates, two compounds were newprenylflavones,
and two structures were new stilbenoids. The biosynthesis
of the prenylated flavonoids and stilbenoids was proposed
to be closely interrelated based on their analogous patterns of oxygenation
and prenylation. This close relationship of the biosynthetic
pathways might reflect the observed simultaneous formation of the
flavonoids and stilbenoids all over the growth curve. In terms of biological
activities, the stilbenoids showed moderate activity in both
the DPPH scavenging activity and tyrosinase inhibition assays,
whereas the flavonoids exhibited only weak activity
