5.4. Other growers
The coefficients of importance of information from
other growers were significantly different from zero at
a 1% significance level and negative in the regressions
for illness and injury from mixing/loading and applying
pesticides. This coefficient was significantly different
from zero at a 1%significance level and positive
in the regression for concern about injury to wildlife.
Thus, respondents considering other growers a more
important source of information expressed less concern
about the safety of mixing, loading and applying
pesticides but greater concern about wildlife injury.
This pattern suggests that stories circulating in
the farm community about illness and injury to pesticide
applicators tend to be rare, with stories about bird
or fish kills or other forms of wildlife damage being
more common.
