Comparing our results from Somalia with other national
estimates compiled by WHO reveals that the UIC for SAC (416
mg/L) is the fifth highest globally, below that of Chile (984 mg/L),
theDemocratic Republic of Congo (495 mg/L), Uganda (464 mg/L),
and Ecuador (420 mg/L) (15). A more recent analysis of global
UIC data for 2011 revealed that between 2003 and 2011 there
was a decrease in the number of countries with insufficient
intakes and an increase in countries with adequate or more
than adequate intakes.
