Pooled results from four RCTs (1–3,5) showed no evidence of
association between discharging mothers within 48 hours after birth versus later and
maternal readmissions (RR=1.09, 95% CI 0.46 to 2.56). The only observational study (9)
also did not show any effect on the risk of maternal readmissions (RR=0.58, 95% CI 0.23
to 1.47). The overall quality of evidence was graded as very low.
