The first factor that can cause culture shock for Thai people if they were living in America is time. Thai people are the polymorphic people. They do many things at once, they can change their plan easily, time is not important for them, being on time is dependent on the relationship—for example, if they make an appointment with their boss, they always on time, not much be late, because be late is rude, like an American, but if they make an appointment with their friends, they always late, not only them, their friend late too, it like a culture, they know each other that they will late, we will late, so late is normal for friends, sometimes they late for an hour but it is normal, they do not blame each other. On the other hand, American is the monochromatic people. They do one thing at time, they follow their plan, being one time is very important—it is not depend on whom they make an appointment with, they will be on time, their boss, their customer, even their friends, time is not dependent on relationship. To illustrate Thai and American, Thai usually late, at least is 5 minutes late or more than that. If you make an appointment with Thai people at 7 o’clock, and you are there at 7.15, it is normal, it is still on time. But if you make an appointment with American at 7 o’clock, and you are there at 7.05, it is very rude, late is very rude for them. If you late, it means you not respect them.
