Typically, the engineering curricula have not set aside a substantial amount of time to
address these issues. Similarly, not much time has been set aside within industry to prepare
managers or working professionals for the sometimes difficult and sensitive tasks of
addressing cultural differences. Even so, it has been our experience that the mutual intellectual
basis of engineering, regardless of cultural diversity, can provide a solid background
on which to seek and understand the nature of our colleagues, their needs, and the
needs of their communities.
