Exchange visits between heads of state have frequently been made since 1966. General Park Chung-hee was the first Korean President to go to Thailand in February 1966 while Thai Prime Minister General Thanom orn reciprocated a visit to Korea in April 1967. Up to 2014, there have been 18 exchange-visits between heads of state. Thai Prime Minister Thanin Kraivichien made a state visit to Korea in 1977 while, in 1981, President Chun Doo hwan went to Thailand. Korean President Roh Moo-hyun attended the APEC Summit in Thailand in October 2003 and President Lee Myung-bak attended the ASEAN-Korea Summit in October 2007. Thai Prime Minister Taksin Shinawatra attended the APECSummit in Korea in September 2005 and Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha attended the Second ASEAN-Korea Commemorative Summit in December 2014 More importantly, from the Thai perspective, the royal members' visits to any country signify an honorable favor that the Kingdom places onto such a state.
