The results of this study pointed to a clear relationship between research self-efficacy and publication output. That is, the more self-efficacious in terms of research the more likely an academic would produce refereed publications. Furthermore, the testing of the regression model showed that a large proportion of the total variance in publication output could be explained by three measures of research self-efficacy: reporting and supervising research, skills related to the conduct and management of research, and writing major works and reviewing articles/books. Although, a fourth measure of research self-efficacy, namely, having a broad view of a research area, did not predict publication output in the full model, it was shown to have a degree of influence when entered first in a multiple regression analysis.
