In some cases, the formation of a destination may be completely
dependent on time. According to Kuusik (2011), the meaning of a
destination depends on the aim of the visit. Hence, for example,
attending a concert or sports event at a fixed time may be the aim of
the visit. In this case, a certain place where the event takes place
can act as a destination for a specific time period. Getz (2005, 2008)
defines a tourism event as a spatial-temporal phenomenon. Such
events have a clear beginning and end and are confined to a certain
place, which is in contrast to the concept of a destination, where the
boundaries of a destination are by definition more vague (Zakrisson
& Zillinger, 2012). Yet the event and the destination can become
inseparable over time (Getz, 2005).
