To study the effect of the pyrolysis temperature on product
characteristics, pyrolysis runs have been conducted at 400, 450,
500 and 600 _C. The runs have been carried out in continuous
mode by feeding 1 g min_1 of biomass. The bed was initially made
up of 100 g of sand (particle size 0.3–0.63 mm), allowing the continuous
removal of the char from the bed by a lateral outlet. Sand is
used as thermal carrier to quickly transfer heat from hot nitrogen
to the RH in the reactor and guarantee bed isothermicity. The
fluidizing gas (nitrogen) flow rate was 10 NL min_1, 1.2 times that
corresponding to the minimum spouting conditions to ensure stable
spouting.
