In an investigation with the hide beetle, Dermestes
maculatus De Geer (= uulpinus F.), Clark and Bloch
(16) showed that several sterols can replace a major
portion of the dietary cholesterol requirement and have
ascribed an apparently dual role to sterols in this insect.
