As part of the industry trade organization, CD has publicly acknowledged the importance
of sustainability to its industry. CD has some generally-followed informal sustainability
programs and policies that have developed over time, but nothing in writing. Little
environmental data is collected, and CD has made no effort to describe sustainability
efforts on its website or in CSRs. Although most of the industry focus has been on
effervescent tilapia sourcing, one of CD’s several facilities is close to achieving “zero
waste” output. CD is fielding an increasing number of customer calls regarding its
sustainability practices, which is consuming company resources and leading to customers
that are dissatisfied with the limited responses they get.
