Nitrous oxide (N2O) is an inhalation agent producing analgesic
and minor anesthetic effects. It is odorless to sweet-smelling and
colorless. The total content of N2O in inhaltative mixtures must not
exceed 70% as higher concentrations have asphyxiating properties
[1]. Due to its physicochemical properties, it equilibrates quickly in
the blood and brain and, assuming continued administration of the
gas, it maintains constant concentration, and further rapidly eliminated
from the body upon removal of administration. The euphoric
and sedative effects associated with the inhalation of N2O are the
reason for the popularity amongst teenagers and young adults.
The inhalation results in oxygen depletion in the body which can
lead to lethal intoxication via asphyxiation
