Viewed in this light, social media affect the users’ social capital by maintaining the existing relationships and creating new connections with those who are geographically dispersed on a large scale in a virtual location (Vitak et al., 2011). In accordance with previous research, it is inferred that social media may improve social networks within and outside the immediate relationships, which may have an effect on an individual’s bonding and bridging social capital.
