Bacteria
S. agalactiae (ST 991) was isolated from an outbreak of disease in
tilapias which were being cultured in pens in Colombia. The bacterium
was cultured in BHI agar with 5% ovine blood at 28 °C and Gram stained. Genomic DNA was extracted by the phenol-chloroform
method and its 16SrRNA gene was amplified and sequenced. The sequence
data were compared to that present in the National Center for
Biotechnical Information (NCBI) database (GenBank ID: HQ542194).
