II. ONE-DIMENSIONAL EDGE SHARPENING
In this section we describe the idea of a single edge enhance-
ment using a pixel grid transformation.
A. A Grid Warping
Compared to a sharp edge profile, the profile of a blurred
edge is more gradual. So in order to make the edge sharper its
transient width should be decreased (see Fig. 1).
For any edgecentered atits sharper version
can be obtained shifting the pixels from the neighborhood of
the edge towards its center. The displacement functionde-
scribes the shift of a pixel with coordinate to a new coordinate
.
The warped grid should remain monotonic (i.e. for any
new coordinates should be), so the
displacement function should match the following constraint:
