whereas roughly half of the wholesalers/distributors, manufacturing organizations and
others and 61 percent of 3PL warehouse/logistics organizations were not considering
RFID. None of the respondent retailer organizations had implemented RFID with the rest
(23 percent) of the retailer organizations considering RFID. On the other hand 38,
26 and 16 percent of the respondent manufacturing, wholesaler/distributor and 3PL
warehouse/logistics organizations, respectively, had either implemented or were pilot
testing the technology. This re-affirms what we have found in the literature that the
retailers are having (through mandates) the upstream members of their supply chain
first take on the responsibility of introducing the RFID technology by tagging the
products at the manufacturing or warehouse point in the supply chain.
