Maybe you have never spoken the language of the country you are living in; maybe you have opened a few books, but find that you can’t communicate with the locals; maybe you can communicate, but sometimes have difficulty getting your meaning across; maybe you speak the language well, but still don’t understand some of the slang and colloquialisms that you hear as you speak with the natives. Whatever the problem, there is almost always a language barrier of some description when you move abroad, unless you are a fluent speaker.
