Steps in the Water Treatment Process
Screens at the water intake prevent fish and large debris from entering treatment plant.
Pumps push raw water to the treatment plant.
A flash mix is added to cause particles remaining in the water to coagulate or clump together.
In the flocculation chamber, iron and manganese are oxidized to improve taste and odor.
Chlorine is added to disinfect the water before filtration.
Water enters the settling basin to allow any existing solids to settle to the bottom. Clumped particles sink to the bottom of the basin. The sludge is sent to a storage lagoon.
Filters remove fine particles and other impurities from the water.
In the disinfection process, Chlorine is added to destroy bacteria, lime to control corrosion, fluoride to brighten smiles.
Pumps send the water to the distribution system.
Clean water is now available as needed in your home.
