The remaining part of Chapter 6, Section 1 is important for a variety of reasons. We have the development of the Bank of the United States, which like everything else during this time period, was new to everyone and nearly impossible to agree upon. We also have a new imposed tax on whiskey, which anger many and caused disagreements within the states. Finally we have the development of the very thing George Washington urged against, political parties. Today, we need to break these segments down. Do this in a quick keynote, powerpoint, ect. (you know by this point I allow you to use what you are most comfortable with). You will find the information on pages 212-214. The following are a few ideas that I want you to add into your work:
1. Why did Hamilton ask for a national bank?
2. Why did the south oppose the national bank?
3. What are enumerated powers?
4. What was the disagreement between Hamilton and Washington's cabinet members?
5. What are implied powers?
6. What was the eventual outcome?
7. Why were westerners outraged over the whiskey task?
8. Who did those who rebelled attack?
9. What power of the presidency did Washington impose during this time?
10. Compare and contrast Hamilton and the federalists and Jefferson and the republicans.
Finally-to put this all in perspective-use your iPad to research and list the national debt for years 1800, 1900, and 2000.
Lastly-use your iPad to research the origin of the two (main) current political parties. Add two or three sentences about each to your work.
I prefer you do these on your iPads so you can add pictures for the Whiskey Rebellion, or Political Parties section. (Political cartoons would be great here). You will not have to present these, so I want you to do them on your own. Do good work, as most of you always do. Thanks for your cooperation and stop saying you are not going to do it.........because you are..........right now...........go! P. Hunt.....out.
