AUDIO PANEL (AV-900)
Two digital Audio Panels are installed in the central console, one for the pilot
and one for the copilot.
The digital Audio Panels provide for crew interphone and audio integrating.
They interface with each other and the NIMs via dual redundant digital audio
buses (AUDIO and MIC buses); analog audio interfacing is also provided for
backup operation following digital audio failure.
The digital Audio Panels convert digital audio signals from the digital audio
buses into analog signals that are audible in headphones, speakers and
cockpit voice recorder (CVR) outputs, and convert analog microphone
signals along with keying information into digital audio signals for the MIC
digital buses.
If one digital Audio Panel fails, it can be set to back-up mode so that the
Audio Integrating System can supply the involved pilot with analog
interphone and on-side COM radio operation: This performs the role of
emergency communications.
The digital Audio Panels are able to support optional radios even if nonintegrated
within the MRCs such as the high frequency communications (HF
COMM) radio, or non-Primus EPIC optional radios such as Wulfsberg
Flexcomm V/UHF radio or airborne telephone.
Up to six digital Audio Panels can be installed in the cabin (for a total of eight
panels on board) to permit all crew members to intercommunicate and take
advantage of digital audio integrating functionalities.
In the standard helicopter configuration, however, only one analog Cabin
Audio Panel is installed.
Various versions of the digital Audio Panels are available for installation;
some of them are shown in the figure.
CABIN AUDIO PANEL
As part of the standard helicopter configuration, an analog Cabin Audio
Panel is installed under the forward left cabin window in order to permit a
cabin attendant to intercommunicate with cockpit and to address
passengers.
EXTERNAL INTERCOM JACK
An external jack is installed on the forward fuselage RH side (short nose
helicopters) or inside the external power bay in the nose RH side (long nose
helicopters) to permit a ground crew to connect a headset.
Ground crew is allowed to communicate with pilot and co-pilot.
