To date, both expert and empirically derived algorithms have
used general algorithms that do not pay attention to the content of
therapy being delivered. The use of general algorithms is based on
the assumption that non-specific factors account for most variance
in therapy outcome, while specific content of therapy contributes
modestly, if at all, to eventual outcome. However,
as suggested, there should be an empirical test
of whether the effects of feedback on therapy progress are
moderated by therapy content.
