We believe that museum websites represent a new technology use context that differs from that of commercial websites. Lee and Baskerville explained that generalizability is important in research because it is what demonstrates the usefulness of a theory. For instance, the more that a theory is validated in different contexts, the more likely the theory is useful in explaining a phenomenon. Lee and Baskerville suggested four different types of generalizability. Our research corresponds
to the TE type of generalizability, meaning that we generalize from theoretical statements to empirical statements: ‘‘this involves generalizing a theory, confirmed in one setting, to descriptions of other settings’’
