SUMMARY
Sixty schizophreniform patients (acute schizophrenia)(30 males, 30 females)
from A-Diwaniya teaching Hospital, and sixty chronic schizophrenic patients from Al-
Rashad Mental Hospital (30 males, 30 females) were cross-sectionally studied during
the period from 1st Jan., 2008 to 1st Aug.,2008. The results of the current study
revealed that the frequency of delusions among the schizophreniform group of patients
were significantly higher than among the chronic schizophrenic ones. Highly significant
correlation between delusions and educational level was found; the higher the
educational level the more frequent were the delusions. There was no significant
association between delusions and some other sociodemographic factors such as age,
sex and marital status. The findings of this study are in accordance to the findings
reported from different cultures; Western and non-Western ones.
