Funded by National Science Foundation (NSF), in 2010,
the NRC convened a team of experts to identify highly
successful K-12 schools and programs in STEM at the
request of Representative Frank Wolf (VA). The report
however focused on the Science and Mathematics
components of STEM, rather than Technology and
Engineering because those subjects are less mature and not
commonly taught in K-12 formal education [1]. Studies and
data surveys also indicate that among elementary, middle,
and high schools within the sciences the major emphasis is
on Biology and Chemistry, rather than Earth Sciences [3].
