This paper shows the results oftests carried out on a pilotHSSF
system planted with Arundo donax L. (giant reed) and Cyperus
alternifolius L.(umbrella sedge), located in the West of Sicily (Italy)
under typically Mediterranean climate conditions. In order to
understand the effectthattwo different macrophytes can have on
the amount of treated wastewater available at the outflow of the
system under identical environmental, crop and hydraulic conditions,themainaimsofthe studywere:
