Khaen and Kheng are as custom musical instruments of Tai ethnic group and
Hmong ethnic group. They play an important role in the life of both ethnics because they are inherited from generation to generations about its story of each ethnic group. Khaen and Kheng are the similar physical instruments. They are a kind of aerophone, brass instrument. There are three main parts which are wind chest, Kheng tube and khaen reed and there are five pentatonic scales. The researcher found that the both instruments are different sound, specifically eight woodwind instrument and ancient kind of Kheng.
Conclusion of “Preservation and Transmission of Kheng (Mouth Organ) Making of the Hmong Ethnic Group at Ban Kanok Ngam, Tambon Khao Kho, Amphoe Khao Kho, Phetchabun Province” suggests that government offices and other institutes should support activities and learning kheng. To conserve and transmit Hmong culture, they can support by supply materials and equipment of making kheng, processes of making kheng training, kheng instrumental. The content of this thesis related to structural functionalism; social systems, including structures and activities. Social structure is long time tradition; people in society have social relationship with each other and environment. Structure is resulted from the interaction of social norms and rules of behaviors that cause social instability and stability of the social system.
The entire process of its sound divided 1) sound tube drilling 2) reed scraping 3) assembler and comparing the actual sound. In the part of sound tube drilling preparation is needed elaborate. There is drilling procedure is clearly in length ratio of both woodwind instrument’s sound tubes. Preparation of the part relates to its sound quality and durability of Kheng and Khaen. In second part, reed scraping of Khaen and Kheng are similar but its reed’s shape and size are a little bit different. The reed scraping divided into 3 parts; each part is adjusted by its different sound, included
1) reed base 2) central reed 3) tip reed. Assembler and comparing the actual sound of Khaen and Kheng occurs the last step of sound process preparation. Khaen reed will be set up to the same pitch, but this sound process of Khaen must be fixed รูแพ of its top and bottom sound tube. On the other hand, Kheng reed will be set up to identical 6 reeds which used 3 reeds of Die Lua tube and Die Boo tube, Die Soo tube, Die Kasoo tube, each 1 reed. Tuning in Die Kaboo tube is done by blowing into the tube without closing Kheng and blowing into the tube while closing Die Kaboo tube. The maker tunes the voice by rubbing the reed. Tuning in Die Tue tube is done by blowing into the tube while closing Die Kaboo tube and blowing into the tube while closing Die Tue tube. The maker tunes the voice by rubbing the reed.
