NYC kids have been asked to attend classes as schools will not be closed, though the city’s weather has turned hostile and it is covered with upto 8 inches of white layer
New York City is again being hit by snow storm that led Mayor Bloomberg to declare a ‘weather emergency’ in the city even before the city witnessed falling of snow at approximately 9 p.m. ET.
But this time city kids have not been offered any respite from attending the classes as schools are working as usual. Schools Chancellor Cathie Black made an announcement at 5:00 EST today declaring that all the public schools will remain open, as the city is covered with 6 to 8 inches of snow.
However, the Chancellor added that all the field visits planned for the day have been cancelled, and it is also reported that some of the private schools will remain closed today.
It must be recalled that since 1978, New York City public schools have been closed for only six times.
It is being reported that heavy snow started falling in the city late last night and by 4 a.m., and Central Park was covered with a layer of 8.8 inches of snow.
