runoff from the land and the flushing of streams in which nutrients have accumulated during the dry. Dissolved reactive phosphorus had the strongest seasonal signal of the measured nutrients,increasingly stronger in bays classified as polluted and known to have sewage outfalls and developments that direct effluent to semi-seasonal streams (Fig. 4). Dissolved inorganic nitrogen showed a more variable temporal pattern, but was significantly elevated in bays with known sewage discharges (Fig. 4).
