These include: the increasing number of challenges faced by, and demands placed on, schools; the broadening and deepening of the principal’s role, resulting in role overload; and broader social changes sweeping society and social organizations, such as social constructivism, participation, a press for greater professionalism, for the locus of decision making to slip down the hierarchy to middle and lower levels, for role diversification, and for the blurring of teacher and leader roles.
