which is an essential element for applying
the JIT concept (Banerjee and Golhar,
1993; Kekre and Mukhopadhyay, 1992);
- improvement of existing logistic contract forms
and introduction of new (differentiated) contract
forms;
- faster anticipation of customer demands (e.g.
RAMP: Rapid Acquisition of Manufactured
Parts);
- dynamic coordination of demand and supply in
the logistic chain, leading to reduction of stock
levels and supporting product differentiation
and the assembly process;
- application of Point-of-Sales terminals: information
on items sold is sent automatically to a
central computer.
The use of EDI tends to increase the exchange
