If maximum volitional force output was
achieved and no augmentation of force was observed
with the application of the stimulation,
testing was
concluded for that limb. If augmentation was present
during the application of the electrical stimulus, the
test was repeated for a maximum of 3 trials. Five
minutes of rest was provided between test contractions.
The trial with the highest volitional force
production was used for analysis. Burst superimposition
testing was performed on the uninvolved limb
first followed by the involved leg. The determination
of isometric quadriceps strength is highly reliable
when using a burst superimposition technique in
repeated testing of subjects without knee pathology
(ICC = 0.98).56
