Problems in performing classroom activities can sometimes result from difficulties in transitioning, which refers to the problems a person can experience when changing or moving from one activity to another. The best way to approach problems in this area is to be sure to prepare the individual by informing him or her of upcoming changes in class materials, lessons, or place. A 5-minute warning, followed by a 2-minute warning, for an upcoming change can be very beneficial. Transitioning problems are often more pronounced for persons who have developmental disabilities.
