The results of this study have implications for school health or
private teaching institutions in Turkey. Adolescents need more
knowledge to distinguish between healthy and unrealistic weight
standards. According to the different results seen in this study,
school health programs toward underweight, overweight, or
obesity must be designed differently for girls and for boys. The
results of this study suggest that the prevalence of overweight and
obesity is lower in Turkish school-based adolescents than in
developed countries; however, the prevalence is still high, a fact
that must be taken into account. The lifestyle of adolescents in
Turkey is also changing and coming to resemble that of developed
countries, a factor considered contributing to obesity. Therefore,
preventive actions must be planned and initiated in Turkey from
now on. At the level of the family
