One month later I left this job also and was hired as an assistant by a goldsmith named ko thein han who ran a shop near pazundaung market. One day ko thin han asked me to take a tical of gold to an Indian goldsmith on 29th street to have some work done on it. I located the Indian’s shop with great difficulty, and by the time the work was finished some little time had elapsed. Meanwhile ko thein han became convinced that I had absconded with the gold and reported the matter to the police station. When I returned with the gold and handed it to him I was immediately arrested. The magistrate sentenced me to forty-five days rigorous imprisonment. He explained that he was being very lenient with me since the maximum possible sentence for this crime was three years.
