The expressive value refers to the ability to provide an
expressive quality in which the gift may capture some
aspect of the giver (such as an invitation to see someone’s
favourite group in concert). The gift conveys to recipients
the image that givers wish to offer of themselves (Wooten,
2000). In sum, the gift may be seen as a reflection of the
giver’s personality and would be unthinkable or unusual
to conceive in anyone else.
