The cotyledonary node is the first (lowermost)
node of the seedling axis where the cotyledon is
inserted, its base usually encircling the node (Fig. 1).
epiblast (Richard, 1811). The epiblast is a one-sided outgrowth
of the collar. In typical form it is found in a great
number of grass seedlings. When the collar of a grass seedling
(¼ the first coleorhiza) bears rhizoids, the epiblast may
increase the rhizoid-bearing surface considerably.
