Issues of ethics are always a concern of historians. We can mention at least three things about ethical practice.First, do not plagiarize.Always acknowledge and provide citation for the sources of your data. Always indicate in quotation marks every statement and phrase you lifted verbatim from a source.Do not pass off work done by another as your own, because this will eventually be found out.We must remember that plagiarism in intellectual theft which discredits the author and a plagiarized work has no value to scholars.Second, do not make students or subordinates do your research work,or use their output/data without permission and without giving them due credit. Dojng so constitutes abuse of one'sauthority or misuse of one'sposition.Third, respect the wishes of your sources by keeping confidential any information given to you off the record. Revealing or publishing something that an informant wanted to keep private might cause harm to other people.Fourth, always tell your informants or sources that you are going to use the materials they gave or lent,or the testimonies they have provided that you will be using these in a written account. And finally, do not conduct your research under false pretenses.Just as you wou would not want to be fooled,so should you not fool others in your dealing with them.
