Plants
Two plant species, cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. var. capitata L.) and
tomato (Lycopersican esculentum Mill. Var. cerasiforme (Dunal) Alef.),
were used in the experiment. Seeds were sown with soil (Stender
peat substrate, Known-You Seed Co., Ltd., Taiwan) in 104-well plates
in a greenhouse (25 ±2 °C, 16:8 h light/dark photoperiod) and watered
daily. After 2 weeks, the seedlings were transplanted into 12.7 cm pots
filled with field soil. Before planting, the chemical properties of the soil
were analyzed by the Soil Survey and Testing Center, National Chung
Hsing University, Taichung, Taiwan. Table 1 shows the test results.
Forty-seven-day-old cabbage and 51-day-old tomato plants were used
for the bioassays.
